Fall 2023

Message from the Dean

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the start of our 2023-2024 academic year! I’d like to give a special greeting to students joining us for the first time, either in person or remotely: congratulations on your decision to pursue a degree in the field of public health, it is an honor and a pleasure to welcome you to our College of Public Health family. I also want to take a moment to welcome back returning students, faculty, and staff. I am overwhelmed at all you accomplished last year and I want to thank you for all your continued support and commitment to students, colleagues, alumni, and our entire community.

The new academic year brings exciting news for the College of Public Health. The College will be hosting several events you will want to consider this fall, including a special presentation of Leading Change and Innovation Within Health Insurance, A Conversation to engage students, public health, healthcare and business professionals, on Friday, September 29. In this issue of the newsletter, you will meet our new administrative secretary, Freida Boland, and our new academic recruitment and retention coordinator, Gretchen Thomas. Please join us in welcoming them to the CPH family! You will also get acquainted with the CPH director of Instructional Design, Jamie Rhoads, and our alumna Rose Penix, MPH.

I am enthusiastic for another year of learning, teaching, and research among our vibrant community. I look forward to hearing from you and to hopefully seeing you on campus during Homecoming week, starting October 20. I am grateful for all your support and partnership with the College of Public Health.

I wish you a safe and successful semester.

Yours in good health,

Sonia Alemagno
