麻豆影院 State College of Public Health offers community health worker (CHW) certification as for-credit college coursework that counts toward an undergraduate degree in public health. Those who successfully complete the program, and are certified by the can begin working as a CHW.
A community health worker is defined by the American Public Health Association as 鈥渁 frontline public health worker who is a trusted member and/or has an unusually close understanding of the community served. This trusting relationship enables the worker to serve as a liaison/link/intermediary between health/social services and the community to facilitate access to services and improve the quality and cultural competence of service delivery.鈥

CHWs work in community health centers, hospitals, non-profit organizations, public health clinics, private clinics, public housing organizations, hospitals, client鈥檚 homes, faith-based organizations, and employer or sponsoring agencies.

The U.S. pay range for a community health worker is $28,010 to $70,790, with median wages (2020) of $46,000.
In order to obtain certification, students must complete six credit hours of CHW courses, 130 hours of clinical/field service work, pass a successful background check clearance and complete an online Ohio Board of Nursing application ($35 fee). The background check fee and application fee are not included in program cost. The classroom training may be offered during the day, in the evenings or 100% online. Clinicals/field service work are available during the day mostly and limited availability in the evenings and weekends.

PH 23000 COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER CERTIFICATION I 3 Credit Hours
Students will be guided through the competencies of a Community Health Worker (CHW). Students will be introduced to soft skills and culture including but not limited to basic health care, community resources, advocacy, communication and service skills related to working with communities. Lifespan development will also be covered including but not limited to: Basic health information and education regarding prevention and treatment throughout the lifespan. Prerequisite: None
PH 20392 COMMUNITY HEALTH WORKER CERTIFICATION II-INTERNSHIP
(ELR) 3 Credit Hours
Internship course providing necessary contact hours for the Ohio Community Health Worker Certification.
