Â鶹ӰԺ State to Honor Veterans on Nov. 9

Â鶹ӰԺ will hold its annual Veterans Day observance on Wednesday, Nov. 9, at 11 a.m. on the Student Green at Risman Plaza.

The outdoor program, Honoring All Who Serve, will include a flag-raising ceremony conducted by a joint color guard from the university’s Army and Air Force ROTC programs, remarks from Â鶹ӰԺ State President Beverly Warren and guest speakers. Retired Petty Officer 1st Class Mark Gainer, who currently serves as president of the Â鶹ӰԺ State Veterans Club, will be the guest speaker.

All are invited to come and pay tribute to America’s veterans. A special invitation is extended to Â鶹ӰԺ State faculty, staff, students and community members who are veterans, active service members or who have family members in the military.

A reception in the Â鶹ӰԺ Student Center Kiva lobby will follow the brief program. In the event of inclement weather, the rain location will be the Â鶹ӰԺ Student Center Kiva.

Â鶹ӰԺ's holiday closure for 2024 will begin Monday, Dec. 23, 2024, at 10:30 p.m. All offices will re-open on Thursday, Jan. 2, 2025. Employees not eligible for the paid leave include student employees, classified temporary staff, temporary agency staff, short-term unclassified appointments, unclassified intermittent appointments and employees in a lay-off status. More information on the holiday schedule, including how employees should report time during that period, will be available later this month.

Testing Your Faith Act (H.B. 353) was enacted in the Spring 2023 semester. In ordinance with this bill, Â鶹ӰԺ created a new administrative policy for religious and spiritual accommodations. This administrative policy allows students to report up to three days of unexcused absences to participate in religious holidays or community-held events in alignment with their spirituality.

Â鶹ӰԺ businesses, with the help of Main Street Â鶹ӰԺ, have created an exclusive weekend of special offers, giveaways, discounts and raffles just for educators Friday, Nov, 17 through Sunday, Nov. 19.
