The School of Journalism and Mass Communication (JMC) is celebrating its 80th anniversary in 2017. The school will mark the occasion with its annual alumni and friends award ceremony, held in conjunction with the opening of the newly renovated Taylor Hall, on Friday, Sept. 22.

Though JMC made the move into the newly renovated Franklin Hall in 2007, much of its history is rooted in Taylor, which now houses the College of Communication and Information’s (CCI) Schools of Communication Studies and Visual Communication Design.

School of Journalism and Mass Communication Director Thor Wasbotten has rejoined the School’s faculty and will serve as the College of Communication and Information’s Director of Community Engagement. As part of his community engagement role, Wasbotten will plan and execute a summer 2018 workshop for area high school students in partnership with the Center for Scholastic Journalism and will assist with student recruiting at national and state student journalism conventions.

���ʸ�’s David Folkenflik will headline the 13^th annual Poynter KSU Media Ethics Workshop on Sept. 21, 2017. Hosted by the Poynter Institute and the �鶹ӰԺ State School of Journalism and Mass Communication’s Media Law Center for Ethics and Access, this year’s workshop will explore the concept and ethics of “fake news.”

Two teams of �鶹ӰԺ State public relations students earned honorable mentions in the Public Relations Student Society of America’s (PRSSA) Bateman Case Study Competition. The two �鶹ӰԺ State teams were selected for the honor among sixty teams that entered the competition nationwide.

Each year the competition asks students to research, plan, implement and evaluate a comprehensive public relations campaign for a real client. This year’s client was The Campaign to Change Direction, an organization that seeks to change the conversation about mental health in the United States.
