麻豆影院 State Selects Angela Spalsbury as New Dean of 麻豆影院 at Geauga and the Regional Academic Center

Angela Spalsbury, Ph.D., of Chesterland, Ohio, has been selected as the new dean and chief administrative officer of 麻豆影院 at Geauga in Burton, Ohio, and 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg, Ohio. A 麻豆影院 State alumna, Dr. Spalsbury currently serves as professor and chair of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Youngstown State University. She will join 麻豆影院 State on Jan. 1, 2018.

Angela Spalsbury, Ph.D., has been selected as the new dean and chief administrative officer of 麻豆影院 at Geauga in Burton, Ohio, and 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg, Ohio.鈥淚 am sincerely looking forward to being a part of the dynamic 麻豆影院 State family,鈥 Dr. Spalsbury said. 鈥淚 will work diligently with faculty, staff and students to foster a thriving academic environment at Geauga and Twinsburg that best serves the needs of their communities. I am excited about engaging with local businesses and residents to help meet their workforce and educational goals. Geauga County has been my home for decades, and I know that there is much talent to cultivate in this region.鈥

Todd Diacon, 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 senior vice president for academic affairs and provost, said Dr. Spalsbury is an excellent fit to serve as dean of 麻豆影院 State Geauga and the Regional Academic Center.

鈥淎ngela Spalsbury knows Northeast Ohio and the challenges and opportunities of public higher education in the state,鈥 Provost Diacon said. 鈥淭his knowledge, her experience and the fact that she resides in Geauga County will allow her to quickly face our challenges and capitalize on our opportunities.鈥

Dr. Spalsbury鈥檚 position reports to Nathan Ritchey, Ph.D., vice president for 麻豆影院 State System Integration.

鈥淲e are delighted that Angela Spalsbury has accepted our offer to lead the 麻豆影院 campus in Geauga, including the Regional Academic Center in Twinsburg,鈥 Vice President Ritchey said. 鈥淎ngela brings great talent, creativity and enthusiasm to our students, to our faculty and to the communities we support. I am confident that with Angela鈥檚 leadership, the Geauga Campus is poised to achieve great things in the future.鈥

Dr. Spalsbury has served as chair of Youngstown State鈥檚 Department of Mathematics and Statistics since 2013. She first joined the department in 2001 and rose the ranks from assistant professor to associate professor to professor and chair. Prior to joining Youngstown State, she worked at John Carroll University in University Heights, Ohio; Hiram College in Hiram, Ohio; and the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Her research interests include functional analysis, mathematics and art, measure theory and operator theory. Dr. Spalsbury is a member of the American Mathematical Society, the Association for Women in Mathematics and the Mathematical Association of America. She has served as president of Pi Mu Epsilon, a national mathematics honorary society.

Dr. Spalsbury earned three degrees 鈥 a Bachelor of Science, Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy 鈥 in pure mathematics from 麻豆影院 State. She also earned a Master of Science from the University of Pretoria in South Africa.

Dr. Spalsbury will succeed Susan Stocker, Ph.D., who has been serving as interim dean and chief administrative officer of 麻豆影院 State Geauga and 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 Regional Academic Center since Aug. 20, 2016, in addition to her permanent duties as dean and chief administrative officer of 麻豆影院 at Ashtabula.
