On May 2-4, 2025, �鶹ӰԺ will hold its annual commemoration to honor the memory of May 4, 1970 – a tragic day when the Ohio National Guard opened fire on �鶹ӰԺ State students during an anti-war protest on campus, killing four students and wounding nine others. May 4, 1970, marked a pivotal moment in American history.

�鶹ӰԺ has successfully completed a strategic bond restructuring that delivered $4 million in net present value savings.

�鶹ӰԺ State Vice President and General Counsel Willis Walker was recognized by �鶹ӰԺ State's Board of Trustees for his 25 years of service to the university as he retires from more than 40 years as a legal professional. 

�鶹ӰԺ’s College of Podiatric Medicine remains one of the nation’s most affordable podiatric medicine programs following the �鶹ӰԺ State Board of Trustees’ approval of tuition and fees for the upcoming academic year. 

The �鶹ӰԺ Board of Trustees met March 19 on the �鶹ӰԺ Campus for its regular quarterly meeting. Among its actions, the Board endorsed the Division of Academic Affairs’ plan for degree-granting colleges called Transformation 2028. 

Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 19, at 9:50 a.m. All �鶹ӰԺ campuses will be participating in this test.

The national trend of fully online enrollment has been decreasing since the pandemic, but �鶹ӰԺ State’s online programs are bucking those trends. �鶹ӰԺ State offers 90 fully online degree and certificate programs. From bachelor’s to master’s degree programs, the university provides its nationally distinctive academics completely online.

�鶹ӰԺ’s Vice President for Information Technology and Chief Information Officer, John Rathje, has been named the recipient of the prestigious 2025 ORBIE® Award in the Corporate category. 

For the �鶹ӰԺ community, March 17, 2020, was the day most university employees began working remotely following the shift of coursework to online classes and nearly all students leaving the residence halls as COVID-19 reached Ohio.

�鶹ӰԺ alumnus Antonio Gates has begun his journey to football immortality, recently visiting the Pro Football Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio, to meet with officials and begin preparations for his enshrinement. The former basketball standout at �鶹ӰԺ State will become just the second Golden Flash to earn a gold jacket, joining linebacker Jack Lambert who was enshrined in 1990.

Eboni Pringle Ph.D., senior vice president of Student Life, calls the full-time and part-time employees in the division a "dream team" for the exceptional service they render.

�鶹ӰԺ has finalized its proposed realignment of degree-granting colleges within the Division of Academic Affairs and its administration, following extensive consultation with �鶹ӰԺ Campus faculty and the Faculty Senate.

�鶹ӰԺ State accounting majors have excellent employment prospects. The projected growth rate for accountants is six percent from 2022-2033. 

The �鶹ӰԺ Board of Trustees will hold its next regular business meeting at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, March 19.

A �鶹ӰԺ State staffer shared some high-altitude views from a recent flight from the �鶹ӰԺ Airport on an icy morning. 

�鶹ӰԺ President Todd Diacon empathized with a campus community facing stress and concern amid academic changes being discussed as part of Transformation 2028 and recent government guidance that will impact how the campus community cares for one another.

John Elliot, a 1970 �鶹ӰԺ graduate, and his wife, Fonda, have created The Elliot Scholars program at �鶹ӰԺ State with a $1 million donation. This new scholarship program will provide support to first-generation students of any major who require financial support to attend �鶹ӰԺ State.

With the release of the new 2025 Carnegie Classification of Institutions of Higher Education, �鶹ӰԺ has once again been awarded the prestigious R1 designation, recognizing �鶹ӰԺ State as one of the top research universities in the nation.
