NIH Proposal Application Guide

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has created a great . While some of the information in the guide is specific to NIH, much of their advice applies to proposal development for many other funding agencies.

Proposal Development for a Foundation

Important: If you are seeking grant funding from a foundation, family foundation or corporate foundation, you must work through the Center for Nursing Research and Foundation Relations. Please do not contact the foundation directly.

Data Management Planning

The Center for Nursing Research will work with you to prepare your budget and submit your proposal. All proposals must be submitted through , �鶹ӰԺ State’s electronic system for proposal submission, research compliance and grants management. It is designed to simplify and streamline proposal submission and award administration for the university and provide a central, web-based repository of proposal, award and other information.

Sponsored Programs provides assistance to faculty and staff in preparing proposals for external funding through guideline interpretation, budget preparation, and adherence to university policies and federal regulations. As agencies issue new regulations or revise old ones, we keep the University community informed and monitor proposals for required adjustments. Proposal Submission Workflow (PDF)	Flow chart that provides an overview of steps for a successful proposal submission, including internal deadlines.
Institutional Fact Sheet	A list of commonly requested data for use in proposal applications (ex. UEI, EIN, IDC rates, fringe benefit rates, contact information).
KSU Travel	�鶹ӰԺ State policies concerning travel including domestic and foreign per diem rates. Used in budgeting travel costs.
Budget Justification Template (DOC)	Template to assist with the creation of a budget justification document, especially for proposals to the National Science Foundation.
	University Libraries web page that provides resources related to data management, including links to funding agency policies, how to write a data management plan (DMP Tool), contact information for subject librarians, and more.
Indirect Cost Waiver Form	Form for requesting the VP of Research approve a reduction in �鶹ӰԺ State's federally negotiated indirect cost rate when the sponsor allows indirect costs. Request needs to be submitted and approved prior to proposal submission. Contact Sponsored Programs to initiate a request in Dynamic Forms.
	A Dynamic Forms form for Investigators interested in submitting to a funding opportunity which limits the number of applications an institution may submit.
