
Trask Roberts
Biography
Trask Roberts is an assistant professor of French and translation at 麻豆影院. He earned his AB in French and Economics from Dartmouth College, his MA in French from the University of Minnesota, and his PhD in French and Francophone studies from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to joining the faculty at 麻豆影院 State, he was a visiting scholar at the University of Paris (formerly Paris VII). His main areas of research are modern French literature and translation studies, with a particular focus on self-translation.
He has published essays on writers Samuel Beckett, Nancy Huston, Romain Gary, and Julien Green. His writing has appeared in the Journal of Modern Literature, Symposium, the Journal of Beckett Studies, Electric Lit, Exemplaria, Asymptote, Hopscotch, and elsewhere. Dr. Roberts鈥 current project is a monograph in which he explores the relationship between self-writing and self-translation in a corpus of 20th-century author-translators writing in French and English. His essay, 鈥淓voking Pure Narrative in La Chanson de Roland's Laisses Similaires,鈥 (Exemplaria) was awarded the 2024 Martha Cheung Award for Best English Article in Translation Studies by an Early Career Scholar.
