Criteria for Graduate Faculty Membership - Department of Psychological Sciences

General Statement
As a mature, Ph.D. granting department, the Department expects all tenure track Faculty (probationary and tenured) to be fully engaged in the graduate program. Such activities include teaching graduate courses, serving on thesis and dissertation committees, directing theses and dissertations, supervising and collaborating with graduate students on research, conducting research of their own and, as appropriate, with faculty colleagues, and, in the case of Clinical Psychological Science Faculty, supervising the Clinical Psychological Science work of graduate students in the Clinical Psychological Science program. In this context, the typical Faculty member in the Department is expected to function as a Full Member of the Graduate Faculty. Those Faculty who fall significantly short of meeting the criteria noted below may be recommended as an Associate Member of the Graduate Faculty or removed from the graduate faculty entirely.

Graduate Faculty Status
A. Full Member
F3: May serve on doctoral committees and (with departmental approval) co-direct dissertations.
Criteria A, B, and C must be satisfied.
F4: May direct doctoral dissertations.
Criteria A, B, C, and D must be satisfied.
B. Associate Member
A1: May teach graduate courses and serve on MA committees.
Criteria A must be satisfied.
A2: May direct MA theses.
Criteria A and B must be satisfied.

Criteria
A. The Faculty member must hold a doctorate in psychology. In the case of a new Assistant Professor who is hired prior to completing his/her doctorate, all requirements must be completed by January 15 of the first year at 麻豆影院.
B. The Faculty member must demonstrate research productivity in the last five years. Such productivity could include the following:
1. refereed published works (articles, books, chapters, etc.);
2. extramural grant applications;
3. papers presented at professional meetings; and
4. invited colloquia.
C. Continuing Faculty must demonstrate (new Faculty are expected to demonstrate) active involvement in graduate training through the following:
1. teaching in the graduate program on a regular basis;
2. serving regularly on thesis and dissertation committees; and
3. directing theses and dissertations.
D. The Faculty member must have directed and/or co-directed at least one dissertation.

Role of Regional Campus Program and Faculty
It is recognized that while regional campus Faculty hold their appointments specifically in the Regional Campuses System, they are also tenure track members of their respective departments and colleges and will be represented on key Departmental committees, which shall, where practicable, include, but not be limited to, the following: Departmental FAC;; Chair Search Committees, Review Committees; Promotion and Tenure Committees; and committees considering curriculum, , instructional standards, and program development. Regional campus Faculty are responsible to the Regional Campus Dean in matters of teaching load, course assignment, salary recommendations, and similar matters.

Role and Responsibility of Faculty Members
Each Faculty member is expected to contribute to the University and Department in three areas: research, teaching, and service. As a doctoral-granting department, the Department expects research and scholarship of all Faculty members. Faculty are also expected to be active contributors to their profession. Additionally, seeking extramural financial support for research and training endeavors is encouraged. To facilitate this research process, monies will be provided to each Faculty member to be used for research and/or professional travel purposes. The Chair, in consultation with the FAC, will periodically review this amount and adjust as needed.
Good teaching is expected of all faculty members. Supervision of graduate and undergraduate research projects, including thesis work, is expected from all 麻豆影院 campus faculty and is part of the teaching function. Similarly, supervision of the Clinical Psychology work of graduate students is viewed as part of the teaching function of most Clinical Psychological Science Faculty members.
Service on committees is expected of all Faculty, commensurate with rank.

Students
Students' academic needs are of primary importance to the Department. Students participate in various departmental committees as indicated in Section I of this Handbook.
Appointments
At the undergraduate level, the curriculum and student services are coordinated by the Undergraduate Curriculum Coordinator. The Undergraduate Psychological Sciences Office serves as a focus for professional advising activities, but individual Faculty members are responsible for providing faculty advising (e.g., academic counseling) to those students assigned to them.Student advising at the graduate level is coordinated by the Directors of Clinical Psychology and Psychological Science Training. At the graduate level, students will typically develop a more tutorial relationship with the Faculty member who is directing the student's dissertation, the "major Professor."
Students should always, however, be able to approach any Faculty member in the Department to obtain advice on academic matters.
Students who are dissatisfied with a grade received in a class are encouraged to talk with the instructor about the problem. If informal methods fail to satisfy the student, a grievance procedure is available. This procedure is given in Section 3342-4-02.3 (Administrative policy and procedure for student academic complaints) of the University Policy Register. The dismissal and appeal procedure for graduate students is given in the Departmental Operating Procedures Manual.
