Design and Coding Summer Camp

Join us for an inspiring week of creativity at our Design and Technology Summer Camp, led by faculty from the schools of Visual Communication Design and Emerging Media and Technology at 麻豆影院.

The workshops will run from Monday, June 6th to Friday, June 13th, starting at 12:30 PM and ending at 4:30 PM.

This series of workshops is developed for rising high school juniors and seniors as well as incoming first-year students interested in design and technology. This immersive experience spans five engaging days, each dedicated to a unique design aspect. Participants can explore various techniques and mediums, from traditional printmaking with letterpress to cutting-edge technology, AI-driven image generation and virtual production. Participants will be able to enhance their skills in visual composition, user experience design, motion graphics and creative coding, all while engaging in hands-on activities and collaborative projects. No previous experience with design, coding or technology is required.

On Monday and Tuesday, attendees can choose between two separate workshops. Option I is perfect for students interested in design and image making. Option II is ideal for students interested in exploring their expressive side and are curious about coding.

Monday and Tuesday, 06.09 and 06.10

Option I: Image Making For Digital and Traditional Media
Design exciting visual compositions and mark-making with ink and stamps, building letter collages, photocopying, scanning, scaling, and distorting images. Design and print posters to explore the letterpress printing process from start to finish.

Option II: Creative Coding
Learn the basics of coding and computer graphics. Students will get an introduction to computational art, learn how to create interactive shapes and colors with Javascript, and create and test parameters on a distinctive digital artifact.

Wednesday, 06.11

Animation and Motion Design
Create a short animation to explore essential animation principles like timing, easing, and looping while designing dynamic motion graphics using Procreate.

Thursday, 06.12

User Experience and Interaction Design
Implement a prototype to investigate user-centered design principles, explore ways of creating intuitive interfaces, and test the designs for usability through hands-on activities.

Friday, 06.13

AI Image Generation for Virtual Production
Generate images for LED matrix wall application using prompt engineering for artificial intelligence. Set up the studio lighting and capture imagery for virtual production.
