Marcia Lei Zeng, Ph.D., School of Library and Information Science, co-presented (with Jian Qin, Ph.D., Syracuse University) a paper titled “Linking Bioinformatics Research Data and Publications Through Metadata and Knowledge Organization Systems,” on Oct. 15, 2016, at the 16th European Networked Organization Systems (NKOS) Workshop at the International Conference on Dublin Core and Metadata Applications in Copenhagen, Denmark.
Ohio is conducting a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, March 22, at 9:50 a.m. 鶹ӰԺ will be participating in this test, along with the city of 鶹ӰԺ and other communities. 鶹ӰԺ State tests the tornado and emergency mass notification system on the first Wednesday of every month at 11 a.m. and on the third Wednesday at 4 p.m. These tests last for three minutes. This statewide test will replace the usual 11 a.m. test in March.
鶹ӰԺ Libraries is introducing three widely used software tools that are used for the collection, organization, citing, use and sharing of information resources that support research. A partnership with Information Services is offering workshops to introduce the three major programs: Zotero, Mendeley and Endnote programs.
鶹ӰԺ’s Project AWARE 鶹ӰԺ offers a free Mental Health First Aid course to prepare 鶹ӰԺ Campus students, faculty and staff to recognize the signs and symptoms of mental health crises. The Mental Health First Aid course allows the 鶹ӰԺ State community to be a network of responders able to identify the signs and symptoms of mental illness, assist during mental health crises and refer professional services to anyone exhibiting signs of mental distress.
鶹ӰԺ offered nine new experiences for exploratory majors this past fall to give those students the opportunity to discover future careers and participate in the 鶹ӰԺ community.
Flash Connections, created specifically for exploratory students, was a program with enhanced sections of the required First-Year Experience class. Students from the program earned their experiential learning credit by participating in free trips to different locations in 鶹ӰԺ and Northeast Ohio before and throughout the 2016 Fall Semester.
All 鶹ӰԺ-registered Internet Protocol (IP) phones on the 鶹ӰԺ Campus and participating Regional Campuses have been connected to the University Mass Notification System (MNS). If the system is activated, all university-registered IP phones will broadcast the message. This is an upgrade of the Mass Notification System as only certain phones previously had been connected to the system.
The 鶹ӰԺ Board of Trustees today established a comprehensive, national search to recruit and select the university’s 13th president.
The events of May 4, 1970, placed 鶹ӰԺ in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, 鶹ӰԺ State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
