Get Ready for National Get Fit Don’t Sit Day on May 3

On Wednesday, May 3, Â鶹ӰԺ will participate in the American Diabetes Association’s National Get Fit Don’t Sit Day.

Most people know that exercise is good for you, but you may not realize just how harmful extended times of sitting can be to your health. That’s why the association recommends that everyone, including people with diabetes, limit the amount of time they spend sitting. In fact, they advise getting up and moving at least every 30 minutes.

Here at Â鶹ӰԺ State, we value the health of our faculty, staff and students and desire to provide opportunities to empower you with the resources you need to get moving – today and every day.

The Employee Wellness Team, along with Recreational Services and the College of Health and Human Services, will host an Open Walk and Stretching Safely miniclinic on May 3. Details include:

  • Open Walk: Participants can grab their walking shoes and water bottles and meet on the walking track behind DeWeese Health Center. The open walk hours will be from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Participants can join at any point in the walk time.
  • Stretching Safely Stop: Jason Parks, graduate assistant with the College of Education, Health and Human Services, will provide ministretch breaks at 11:30 a.m., noon, and 12:30 p.m. to take participants through a short stretching sequence and instruct on how to stretch safely before and after any exercise.
  • Snap some photos during a walk and send to wellness@kent.edu. Participants also may tweet and use #HealthyKSU #Showusyourmove to show your Golden Flashes support for National Get Fit Don’t Sit Day.

Note: In the case of adverse weather, all activities will take place at the Student Recreation and Wellness Center on the upper track during the same time. No registration is required for this walk.
