Division of Information Services Moves Forward With Kaltura Transition

�鶹ӰԺ’s Division of Information Services has introduced , a video platform set to replace KSUtube by the end of the year. Kaltura was chosen because of its seamless integration with Blackboard Learn and in-depth features that benefit both faculty and students.

Information Services’ staff is facilitating the transition from KSUtube to Kaltura by migrating faculty videos from one platform to the other. More than 30,000 videos have been migrated to Kaltura so far, with many faculty and staff providing positive feedback.

“I am very glad Kaltura has been officially added as an online video-making resource for �鶹ӰԺ,” says Luis Hermosilla, Ph.D., associate professor in the Department of Modern and Classical Language Studies. “Integration of Kaltura and Blackboard Learn is very smooth. I highly recommend this tool for both instructors and students.”

By Jan. 1, 2017, users will no longer be able to upload videos to KSUtube.

�鶹ӰԺ State Researchers Reveal How Loss of South African Grasslands to Shrubs Could Affect the Soil and Atmosphere

In their new paper, �鶹ӰԺ State Biology Professor David Ward and colleagues asked whether the encroachment of woody shrubs into grasslands in South Africa would increase or decrease the amount of carbon stored in the soil under the plants.

Ecosystems in today's world are responding to a wide variety of environmental changes. What happens when these changes interact? That was the topic of a recent paper published by David Ward, Ph.D., the Art and Margaret Herrick Endowed Professor of Plant Biology in �鶹ӰԺ's Department of Biological Sciences, and international colleagues and graduate students in the journal Scientific Reports.

The events of May 4, 1970, placed �鶹ӰԺ in an international spotlight after a student protest against the Vietnam War and the presence of the Ohio National Guard ended in tragedy with four students losing their lives and nine others being wounded. From a perspective of nearly 50 years, �鶹ӰԺ State remembers the tragedy and leads a contemporary discussion and understanding of how the community, nation and world can benefit from understanding the profound impact of the event.
