Session 1: Ebrahim Poustinchi & Yasaman Aghili

Friday, September 20

Redefine creative A.I. training and image/video creation while engaging with A.I. as part of the creative process with a tangible level of artistic control and agency.

Lecture: 1:00-2:00 PM

Workshop: 2:30-5:00 PM

Lecture

A Duet with A.I.: Redefining Creativity in the Age of A.I.

Thinking about AI models, workflows, engines, platforms, and even neural networks and pipelines as creative tools, mediums, and potential co-creators, our collective aims to take an informed position regarding artist/designer creative agency, human/non-human coexistence, and conceptual provocations around authorship, aesthetics, and personal language.

Focusing on Studio EP and YDesignStudio's individual and collective works, this presentation looks at the productive tension/friction between the artist/designer and the AI agent through a creative dialogue/process, much similar to a ballet dancer embracing gravity or a sculptor taming a medium.

The lecture showcases the theoretical framework, conceptual ideas, and multidisciplinary driving inspirations for our projects, followed by examples of our work and information about the conceptual and technical processes. Projects ranging from visual poetry and storytelling to interactive robotic installations and 3D-printed sculptures and from video art to human/robot musical duets.

Additionally, a section of the presentation鈥攃entered around accessibility concepts鈥攆ocuses explicitly on some of our creative projects, artworks, and workflows that have employed AI models, tools, and platforms available to the public, in innovative and novel ways.

Workshop

A Duet with A.I.: Creative A.I. Training and Image/Video Creation

This workshop aims to revisit different techniques and methods for engaging AI as part of the creative process with a tangible level of artistic control and agency.

Through a hands-on experience, we welcome the participants to dive deeper into Studio EP and YDesignStudio's self-tailored/curated workflows using AI as a creative partner and collaborative tool/medium.

During the workshop, we will use Krea.ai as our primary AI platform/engine. Throughout the workshop, participants will be introduced to and engage in:

  • Conceptual framework of generative AI鈥攕pecifically the Diffusion and Low-Rank Adaptation (LoRA) models.
  • Step-by-step guidance on training custom LoRA and AI models.
  • Prompt development techniques for text-to-image, image-to-image, and real-time image-making processes.
  • Advanced fine-tuning techniques for an iterative process.
  • Guided AI video generation.
  • Upscaling, enhancing, and scene transfer details and techniques.
  • An introduction towards AI-assisted 2D-to-3D workflow.

At the conceptual level, this workshop is centered around the question of how to use an existing AI platform鈥擪rea, in this case鈥攖o find/develop a personal language/style, while maintaining creative and artistic agency.
