Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) values its relationships with students and their families.

College is a time of transition, and while that is an exciting time it can also be challenging and stressful.  As a parent, there may be times when you need assistance in providing support to your student.  Whether this is the first or last of your children to attend college, there are bound to be times when you feel anxious, frustrated, or challenged by a situation that is taking place in your student’s life.  We can support you during these times and hope that you will come to think of us as your partner in helping your student succeed.

CAPS staff are here to support your student in their academic and personal goals.  We provide a range of confidential mental health services including workshops and skill series, individual and group counseling, psychological testing, substance abuse evaluation and treatment, and crisis intervention.  Our staff also works collaboratively with DeWeese Health Center’s medical and psychiatric providers to address medication needs.

Common presenting issues include difficulty with adjustment to college, academic issues, relationship difficulties, depression, anxiety, body image concerns, eating disorders, sexuality, self-injurious behaviors, and substance-related issues.  CAPS is staffed by licensed psychologists and counselors, as well as graduate interns who are supervised by licensed clinicians.  Our staff all have training and expertise in general college mental health as well as additional expertise in various specialty areas.

We have gathered a variety of information for you and your students throughout our website.  Please explore the website for more information about CAPS and the services we provide.  If you have additional questions, we encourage you to contact us at 330-672-2487.  Please realize, however, that because of confidentiality, our communication with you may be limited, but we are here to support you and to offer consultation when appropriate.
