Internships and Co-ops
Internships and co-ops provide students with an opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills through a hands-on, practical work experience.
Differences between Internships and Co-ops
Other institutions may define internships and co-ops differently or use the terms interchangeably. Here is how we define internships and co-ops at 麻豆影院 State:
Both Internships and Co-ops
- Should be related to a student鈥檚 major and career goals.
- Are eligible for CPT authorization (international students only).
Internships
- Align with the fall, spring, or summer semesters.
- Can be part- or full-time experiences in the summer, when classes are not in session.
- Are part-time in the fall and spring, allowing students to take classes alongside their internship.
- Can be paid or unpaid.
- Are for college credit experiences. Undergrad students can elect to have 1-3 internship credits per semester and certain graduate programs can have 1-4 credits per semester.
- Are eligible for relocation assistance (Summer term only), unpaid internship funding, and other financial assistance through the Career, Exploration, and Development Office.
- Are administered through the College of Aeronautics and Engineering (CAE) for all CAE students.
Co-Ops
- Are more intensive than internship experiences.
- Are full-time (minimum of 30 hours per week) for an entire semester or longer, lasting anywhere from 3-12 months long.
- Are paid experiences.
- Will appear on a student鈥檚 transcript as a special 鈥0-credit鈥 course.
- Allow students to maintain an 鈥渋n school鈥 status for financial aid without taking additional classes. Most scholarships can be 鈥渇rozen鈥 for the duration of the experience.
- Cost a flat $500 fee for students to participate instead of being charged per credit hour.
- Are administrated through the Careers, Exploration, and Development Office. If you are interested in registering for a co-op, please visit their co-op page.
