Quick Tip: Weighted Grades and Dropped Grades
Like last week’s topic, this week’s grade-related features are also not located in the Gradebook. Weighted Grades and Dropping Grades are options that are available in Assignment Groups.
How to weigh grades with Assignment Groups
- Click the kebab (three dots) in the top right of the corner of the Assignments page.
Select Assignment Groups Weight from the drop-down menu.
- Place a check in the box to enable the Weight final grade based on assignment groups option.
- The existing groups will appear. Add the percentage breakdown for each group. As the numbers are added, the total will automatically update.
When all the group percentages are set, click Save at the bottom of the box.
The percentage is displayed at the top of the Assignment group on the Assignments page and in the Gradebook.

How to drop grades within an Assignment Group
- Make sure all desired assessments are in a single Assignment Group.
Click the kebab (three dots) to the right of the Assignment Group name and select Edit from the menu.
A dialog box will pop up. Input the number of lowest or highest scores to drop. You can also specify any assignments you do not want to be dropped. Then click the Save button.
Keep an eye out for next week’s Quick Tip, when we will discuss Grading Schemes.
