Â鶹ӰԺ College of Nursing and Girard High School are working together to help Girard High School graduates obtain a Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degree at Â鶹ӰԺ State. Through the generous support of a Girard High School graduate, the Sheward Family Nursing Scholarship was recently established and will fund the education of two Girard graduates at Â鶹ӰԺ State.
The Sheward Family Nursing Scholarship represents a long-term investment in the Girard High School students and the local Girard community. As more individuals struggle with the cost of higher education, this scholarship will provide financially for these deserving scholars, allowing them to focus their time and energy on their studies all while enjoying an on-campus college experience. Upon graduation, these new nurses will go on to serve their community as BSN-prepared nurses.
Student recipients of the Sheward Family Nursing Scholarship will receive enhanced advising, peer-to-peer mentoring, opportunities to engage with alumni and the College of Nursing Advisory Board. Additionally, they will be encouraged to pay it forward by connecting with currently enrolled Girard High School students. This robust support will help to ensure these scholarship recipients remain in good academic standing and on course to graduate in four years. Upon entering the workforce, former scholarship recipients will be encouraged to engage with current recipients by helping to provide support during the transition from nursing student to practicing nurse.
The partnership between Â鶹ӰԺ College of Nursing and Girard High School also extends beyond this newly created scholarship. Students from the Girard High School Biomedicine program will learn about the nursing profession, tour the Â鶹ӰԺ State campus and Henderson Hall simulation and skills labs, hear from guest lecturers and learn about the importance of secondary education. These students will be provided with a framework specifically designed to help them succeed from the moment they arrive on campus.
Investments like these in the next generation of nursing leaders can positively affect many lives and enhance entire communities. Thank you again to the generosity of the Sheward family.
