Movers and Groovers Assists New Students Moving Into Residence Halls

Volunteers make freshman move-in day less stressful for new students and their families

At the beginning of each school year, 麻豆影院 faculty, staff and students volunteer to help incoming freshmen move into the university鈥檚 residence halls. The annual service program, called Movers and Groovers, is coordinated by 麻豆影院 Interhall Council, the student government of the residence halls on the 麻豆影院 Campus. The volunteers aid new students and their families, providing assistance and helping to make the move-in process less stressful.Volunteers with Movers and Groovers help new students move items into their residence halls.

This year, freshman move-in day is Thursday, Aug. 24, from 8 a.m.-7 p.m.

Last year, 900 people volunteered with the Movers and Groovers program. Jill Jenkins, executive director of Residence Services at 麻豆影院 State, anticipates more than 500 volunteers this year.

鈥淢overs and Groovers is such a great way to welcome our incoming students, Jenkins says. 鈥溌槎褂霸 Interhall Council is the group responsible for the student-run and organized program. Volunteers include fraternities and sororities, campus ministry groups, academic groups and university departments. Move-in truly takes a village, and Movers and Groovers really highlights the community support on day one for helping to ensure new students feel welcome.鈥

The Movers and Groovers program is part of 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 Welcome Weekend, an orientation program that will run from Aug. 24-27. Welcome Weekend includes activities and events to encourage students to explore the 麻豆影院 State community and provides a smooth transition to the university environment.
