Eagle Scout Training Helps 麻豆影院 State Student Save a Life

麻豆影院 freshman Josh Paulin is not only a good student, but also an exemplary citizen.

Recently, Paulin saved a man鈥檚 life, which motivated 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 Department of Public Safety to honor him for his heroic acts.

It all started while he was waiting at a bus stop near the 麻豆影院 Student Center Kiva. Paulin saw a man walk behind him, and then heard a loud thump. The man had collapsed.

鈥淪o I turned around and saw that he was on the ground unconscious,鈥 Paulin recalls.

Using his training as an Eagle Scout, Paulin kept the man鈥檚 airways open until paramedics arrived.

鈥淚 rolled him over on his side, I took off my jacket and put it underneath his head because his head would have been leaning too far down,鈥 he says. 鈥淚 was worried about his neck.鈥

Paulin鈥檚 quick thinking helped the man regain consciousness. He even started breathing again.

Paulin鈥檚 heroic actions represent the core values of 麻豆影院 State. As a result, 麻豆影院 State Police Chief Dean Tondiglia presented Paulin with the Public Safety Citizen鈥檚 Award.

Jennifer Kulics, 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 interim associate vice president and dean of students, witnessed the award presentation.

鈥淲e are so very proud that he would be that selfless,鈥 Kulics says. 鈥淭o me, it shows that we truly have students who are undeniably 麻豆影院 State.鈥

Paulin refuses to consider himself a hero. He says he just wanted to help.

鈥淚 don鈥檛 want to be another bystander saying, 鈥榦h, poor him,鈥 and then walking off,鈥 Paulin says. 鈥淚 thought he would have done the same for me.鈥

Despite his training and skills, Paulin does not have any plans to enter the field of public safety. Paulin is an accounting major in 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 College of Business Administration.
