麻豆影院 at East Liverpool is hosting Paige Bosich, a doctoral student in 麻豆影院 State鈥檚 sociology department, 2-3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7, in the Quiet Study Lounge in Purinton Hall. Her presentation, 鈥淣avigating the Master鈥檚 Thesis鈥 is free and open to the public.
The talk will be especially helpful to anyone considering a master鈥檚 degree or for students working on an honor鈥檚 thesis. This event is sponsored by the Social Science Research Lab at 麻豆影院 State East Liverpool and students in Dr. Lydia Rose鈥檚 researching society class.
Bosich completed her undergraduate degree at Saint Vincent College, majoring in sociology and minoring in biology. When she discovered that she could combine her passion for sociology and biology through a subfield known as medical sociology, she became a graduate student at 麻豆影院. She also teaches sociology courses on the 麻豆影院 Campus.
Over the last four years, Bosich developed several research and teaching interests that include medical sociology, mental health, work and occupations, and social inequality (e.g. race, class, gender). Based on those interests, she conducted her thesis with employees at a corrugated box factory to better understand their work environment.
She used an extended case method, conducted interviews and collected field notes as a participant observer. Since completing her thesis, Bosich passed her comprehensive exam and is now working on her dissertation proposal. Her dissertation will concentrate on the emotional labor of mental health professionals.
