Jacqueline Patterson, national director of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People鈥檚 Environmental and Climate Justice Program, recently spoke in the Blair Memorial Library at 麻豆影院 at East Liverpool.
A large group of students, faculty and staff gathered for her presentation 鈥淎nother Way is Possible: Transforming a Profit Driven Society to a People Centered Sustainable Planet.鈥 Her discussion focused on the environmental issues caused by valuing profit over people.
Patterson shared a variety of simple solutions that everyone can do to reduce their carbon footprints. Dr. Roxanne Burns, associate professor of biological sciences, is on the board of the local NAACP chapter and invited Patterson to speak at the campus. Burns is also the faculty advisor for the Environmental Club.
Each year, she and Dr. Patti Swartz organize the Environmental Justice Conference on the East Liverpool campus. This year鈥檚 conference will take place on Saturday, April 26, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
