2023 Earth Day Conference Focused on Toxic Waste, Chemical Spills

The 2023 Â鶹ӰԺ State East Liverpool Earth Day Environmental Justice Conference will be held April 22 with the theme “Cleaning Up Toxic Waste and Chemical Spills in Our Communities: Corporate and Government Responsibilities.â€

The conference will be held from noon to 3 p.m. in Purinton Hall, located at 400 E. Fourth St.  It is open to the public and there will be an option to join the conference virtually.

The keynote speaker for the conference is David Emerman, chief of Ohio’s Environmental Protection Agency’s Northeast District Office.

The event will highlight student research projects presented in written and poster formats that focus on a variety of environmental justice issues. Winners of the competition will be announced at the end of the conference.

Students wishing to enter the poster competitions can submit their posters the day of the conference or send them in advance to the Â鶹ӰԺ State East Liverpool Campus Earth Day Conference, attention Dr. Lydia Rose, 400 E. Fourth St., East Liverpool, Ohio, 43920.

Papers are due April 14 and should be submitted to .

Dr. Brad Bielski, interim dean and CAO of the East Liverpool Campus, will give an opening address followed by a presentation on the history of the Earth Day Conference.
A keynote speaker will be announced soon, as will the link to join the conference remotely.

The Earth Day Conference planning committee is chaired by Dr. Rose and members include Dr. Darryl Hancock, Dr. Qunxing Ding, Dr. Haiyan Zhu, Dr. Ali Erritouni, Dr. Eric D. Miller, Professor Francis Graham, Professor Daniel Dankovich, Professor Denise Harrison, Moneeka Pelley, Clayton Gellatly, Paula Butler and Jeff Christopher.
