Dr. Gould was honored by The Wick Poetry Center and 麻豆影院 Press; they have created a broadside of his poem, "Subversive Advice for a Young Colleague." A copy was presented to his wife at his memorial service, and a second copy is on display in the Wick Poetry Center in Satterfield Hall.
The Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry extends its condolences to the family of Professor Edwin Gould who passed away at his home on October 11, 2011. Professor Gould received his Ph.D. from the University of California - Los Angeles in 1950 and worked at Polytechnic State University of New York, SRI International, and San Francisco State University. Professor Gould joined the Department in 1967 and retired in August 2011. He authored 196 publications and two seminal textbooks which are recognized as "classic" and "fundamental." His main research interests were in the areas of electron transfer reactions in solution, metal-catalyzed oxidations, long-lived aromatic radicals and unusual oxidation states.
In addition to his numerous accomplishments within academia, Dr. Gould was a talented violinist and violist, playing chamber music on a regular basis around the United States and in 麻豆影院. He was also a gifted poet, and published a number of chapbooks. He participated frequently in 麻豆影院's own series of monthly poetry readings at the Wick Poetry Center.
We will all miss Ed's sense of humor, his passion for undergraduate teaching, and his sharp intellect. No one will be able to fill his shoes...or, more specifically, his red Converse sneakers.
A memorial service will be held in Dr. Gould's honor in the Kiva at 麻豆影院 at 4 p.m. on October 29th. A reception celebrating Dr. Gould's life will be held afterwards in the KSC Ballroom. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wick Poetry Center (www.kent.edu/wick). Contributions may also be made to the Chemistry Reaction Scholarship Fund by sending a check to the KSU Foundation, P.O. Box 5190, 麻豆影院, OH, 44242. Please indicate "In Memory Of Dr. Edwin S. Gould" on the Memo line of your check.
