CAE Student Wins $1,000 May 4 Scholarship

Veronica Rodriguez, freshman, aeronautics student was one of ten students out of 300 applicants who won $1,000 each for their creative use of videos, podcasts and Adobe Spark® pages to reflect on the events of May 4, 1970, as part of the university’s Design Innovation Common Reading Challenge.

Rodriguez won for her Adobe Spark page, Responding to inspire: As a new 鶹ӰԺ State student, how does the legacy of these events inspire you to “be the change you wish to see in this world”?

With the 50th May 4 Commemoration approaching, this year’s Common Reading Experience for all first-year 鶹ӰԺ students created an opportunity to incorporate the books “This We Know” and “Thirteen Seconds: Confrontation at 鶹ӰԺ State."

The annual Common Reading Experience created an opportunity to incorporate the books by Joe Eszterhas and Michael D. Roberts.

To enter the contest, students submitted digital responses to the following prompts:

Number 1: Remember and Honor: How can the 鶹ӰԺ community honor and commemorate these students?

Number 2: Impact: Reflect on one or more impact(s) of the May 4, 1970, events and share how we can use the lessons from the past to influence the future of this institution, the nation or the world.

Prompt 3: Inspire: As a new 鶹ӰԺ State student, how does the legacy of these events inspire you to “be the change you wish to see in this world”?
